Logo Design – What to Expect From a Professional Designer
There are many designers and design companies who provide logo design services. Do you know which ones are professionals and those who only claim to be? When looking to design a logo there are a few things to expect from a professional designer. The following are some aspects of our professional logo design process.
Creative Brief – At the beginning of our process we provide you with a creative brief to complete. This is a small Microsoft Word document that asks approximately 20 questions about your business, marketing, branding and logo requirements.
Research – In addition to reviewing the creative brief for guidance we also do research on your competitors and your target market.
Creation – Once we have reviewed the creative brief and finished our research we start actually designing the logo. Depending on the project requirements we’ll create anywhere from 1 – 12 different concepts.
Presentation – Once we have created the designs we’ll present them to you for your review. You will be able to pick a direction based on the concepts and request any changes. This is an iterative process and we will work with you until you are completely happy with the design.
When choosing a logo designer we recommend looking at the following.
Portfolio – Look at the designers portfolio and make sure that you like the designs. Also make sure that the designs you like represent the level of design work that you are being quoted.
Logo Shops – Be wary of logo shops that pump out thousands of logos a year. These logo shops typically offer unbeatable prices by pumping out logos as fast as possible without much thought to branding and marketing. For just a few hundred dollars more you can often get an exponentially higher level of graphic design.
References – If you are evaluating a logo designer ask for references from satisfied clients. A good logo designer will have lots of happy clients willing to sing their praises.
Customer Service – A professional designer or company contacts you throughout the design process. They will keep you updated with the project’s progress and contact you if they run into any issues. A professional designer will guide you along the design process, listening to your ideas and helping you make an informed decision along all steps of the process.
